“It doesn’t matter how slow you move provided that you do not stop.”

Life is weird. With its twists and turns, you never know what will happen next. Even when you feel like you are moving forward, something bad happens that sweeps you off your feet.

You hit the hard ground, landing on your butt, with your feet yanked into the air. After a grim struggle, you make it back on your feet. But when you are still reeling in shock, you get knocked down.

This time around, you land on your stomach. Instead of trying to get up, you feel like curling yourself up in a fetal position and forget the struggle. How do you move forward in life after suffering multiple setbacks?

How do you move forward after

  • Job loss
  • Illness
  • Accidents
  • Broken relationships
  • Death of a loved one
  • Divorce

Suffering even from one of these setbacks can break even a seemingly powerful soul.

When you encounter major setbacks in life, it isn’t easy to look at the positive side of things. It’s natural to call yourself to a pity party and start whining, asking, “why me?”

But, hey!

You can either be strong or pitiful. Being strong will help you gather all the strength you can ever master and move forward in life as nothing happened.

On the flip side, being pitiful won’t help you one bit. You can sit down, whining till the cows come home, wondering why bad things happen to you, and it won’t solve anything.

You’ll still be confronted with the undesired situation.

So, the only way to move forward when facing obstacles is to be strong. But how do you remain strong in the face of adversity? Well, Let’s see.

Later on

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only option.” When you are going through a tough time, it’s normal to experience a roller coaster of emotions. You feel

  • Hurt
  • Sorrowful
  • Sad
  • Lost
  • Disbelief
  • Regret

And sometimes, you wish you could sleep and never wake-up. Giving up seems like the only sane option. You feel tired of fighting losing battles. You feel like nothing good lasts in your life.

A Vivid Example

Or how do you feel when the person you have dated for many years breaks up with you via a text message? You have feelings for them. You have sacrificed so many things to be with them. You locked horns with your family to be with them.

Others would see they were nor the the right one for you and warned you about it. But you were head over heels in love with them and could hear none of it. So, they strung you around. And like a sheep led to the slaughter, you followed without questioning.

Now they have quietly slipped through your fingers for no reason. Your nights are lonely and cold. Your sorrow knows no end. You tried speaking to your furry friend but got no response.

They could only wag there tail at you and disappear into another room. Loneliness is killing you. You cry every night until sleep comes to your rescue.

It would help if you wiped your tears and get back up. Your life isn’t tied to someone who left you. They left you not because there’s something wrong with you; they left because their part in your story is over.

It’s time to turn on another page and see what life has in store for you.

Your future can only be bright. Keep moving forward.

What’s the Meaning of Moving Forward?

Moving forward means not allowing life’s crisis to break you. It means to keep going when you are hardest hit. It also means digging deep into your energy reserves and keeping fighting long and hard till you overcome the obstacles.

It doesn’t matter how hard or how often you hit a few snugs; you have to find that elusive strength and move forward. Here’s how.

Tips To Help You Move Forward

Have a Positive Attitude

“It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, provided you keep waking up after a fall.” Your attitude determines your altitude. How do you view the challenges you face? Do you see them as hindrances or as hurdles you need to jump over?

If you see them as hindrances, you won’t move past them. You’ll feel sorry for yourself and keep complaining about how unfair life is to you. But if you see them as hurdles you need to jump, you’ll look for ways to go over them and emerge victorious.

You’ll be depressed when things fail to go as planned. But don’t beat yourself about it, because sometimes it’s beyond your control. It would help if you rediscovered yourself, rearrange yourself, and move forward. See obstacles as something you need to jump over, and you’ll never go down in defeat.

Understand that No One Is Immune to Trouble and Suffering

No matter who you are in life, trouble will knock on your door uninvited, unannounced, any time. We lose our loved ones. We lose our jobs when we least expect it.

And we can get involved in accidents even with the best driving practices. Understand that you are not alone in your struggles. We have all been there, in one way or the other.

  • Remain calm.
  • Find the cause of the problem.
  • Look for ways to solve the issue.
  • See if there’s a way to prevent it from happening in the future.
  • Believe in the comeback power.

Do not Personalize the Problem

Suppose you lost your job. Does it mean you are a loser? Not really. It simply means that conditions did not align. You are now free to look for something that will align with your abilities, situations, and personality.

When you personalize setbacks, you misread the message. You may think that a break-up means that you are not lovable, but you grew differently in the relationship and could not cope anymore.

Understand that facing criticism at the office does not mean incompetence. It means you are different and can do better in other areas. How you explain setbacks to yourself matters a lot. Explain setbacks to yourself in a way that makes you feel empowered.

Let Your Hope Keep You Joyful and Empowered.

“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” Hope has a way of helping you move forward. Hope is that feeling of expectation and a strong desire for a certain thing to happen.

Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. When you are going through a tough time, it’s easy to lose perspective. But you need to look and see how things will be one year down the line.

Use tough situations as opportunities to grow and learn. For instance, maybe you have just lost a profitable business because of personal mistakes. You have started another one, but you still feel bad about the one lost.

If you keep running your new business using the knowledge you gained after losing the earlier one, then all your efforts will have paid off. You lost nothing in the first place.

You gained knowledge that helped you run a more successful business. Always expect things to get better.

Bottom Line

Be strong in the mainstream of life. As you’ll face insurmountable problems from time to time, no matter what you are. But you have to move forward.

If you don’t move forward, you stagnate. And stagnation hinders your growth. No matter what you are facing right now, use the above tips to help you keep progressing.
