The Realities of Life Often times, life presents you with different challenges – challenges that nearly choke you out of existence. At those crucial moments, the purpose of life becomes bleak and its essence, frustrating. Then, and right there at that crossroad, it dawns on you that the journey of life is full of ups and downs, push and pulls – an indication that life is not at all, a bed of roses. Of course, in life, many forces militate against one’s quest for fulfillment. For some, it is the daily hustle and bustle for survival while for some others; it is the search for a better life, a raised paycheck or an upgraded standard of living. Ikigai: Bouncing Back In reacting to life’s pressures, the Japanese people invented a concept known as ‘Ikigai’ simply translated in English as ‘the reason for being’. The concept is a marriage of two...

How to Make Real Deep Connection with Someone

Darryl Bachmeier Jun 10, 2020 Social
Deep connected life long friends. Happy together. Three young women.

Most of what we have nowadays as relationships are not what it used to be. Now, it seems we all are in a hurry. We are driven by own selfish inclinations. We want to quickly end a conversation and trot off like wasps into the comfort our solitude offers. We seem to have forgotten the value of social capital. Even for those who claim to sustain relationships, research has proven that it’s no more than a superficial endeavour. They aren’t really connected to their cronies. If this wasn’t so, a research on self-isolation in America would not have revealed that most people have just one person or none at all that they share their personal problems with. Indicative of this is that we all have gotten so paranoid! To make matter worse; the social media has contributed in no small measure to reducing real life, person to person interaction into...

Creative Flow

Darryl Bachmeier Jun 10, 2020 Productivity
Creative flow. Art, painting, creating. Natural focused work.

Mysterious but Explainable! Defying inertia to attain the highest mastery of a skill or an art is magical. You would agree with me that it is quite, a mysterious phenomenon but explainable. Quickly, let us have a flash back – remember the first time you touched the piano with the intention to play? Alternatively, the first time the fine artiste in you prompted you to pick up your bristles and paint a drawing. Alternatively, the ever first time you found an inspiration to write. Amidst the distractions; perhaps you were batting with an emotional challenge; or, you were held to ransom by the greatest distraction of all time – your internet connected smartphone; yet, you reassured yourself you would not give in to these push and pulls. You relentlessly pressed for perfection, ignoring the diversion. Now, compare so far with what you have been able to achieve in that sphere...

Your thoughts create your reality

Darryl Bachmeier Jun 9, 2020 Mind

Thoughts become things. Have you heard of that phrase? Well, it exists for a reason. Your mind actually creates your reality. Of course, it doesn’t mean that our minds can alter the physical world. Still, what it does mean is that what dominates your thoughts becomes your reality. This is because thoughts actually generate emotions, and what do emotions generate? They generate interpretations, which then generate experiences. And what are experiences than your very reality? Just think about it. How about people that have financial difficulties? They think about it all the time until they become chronically anxious. In addition, they start doubting themselves and start thinking they don’t have the ability to make it in this world. It leads to hopelessness, which causes them to search for sources of income that are at the same level as their self-esteem – low. The thing about them is that they don’t...

Wu Wei

Darryl Bachmeier Jun 9, 2020 Life
Wu Wei. Ancient China. Great Wall of China. Outside misty mountains.

Can you achieve something by doing nothing? Well, it seems so, but not quite so literally. There is a significant concept of Taoism called Wu Wei. It’s Chinese, and it literally translates to “non-doing” or doing nothing. What it stands for is a natural action. That means an action that doesn’t involve excessive effort or struggle. Wu Wei is actually the cultivation of a certain mental state in which your actions are very effortlessly in alignment with what we call the flow of life. So, basically, it’s going with the flow, and it’s characterized by a feeling of great ease when we are spontaneously acting perfectly. It’s when you’re doing the right thing spontaneously and effortlessly, without even trying. Haven’t you ever started doing something where everything seemed to just flow, and you felt like you became one with the world? We often refer to it as being in the...

The false self, ego

Darryl Bachmeier Jun 9, 2020 Mind
False self the ego. Vanity. Young beutiful woman outside. Mirror reflection.

What is the ego? The ego is actually the mind identity that we create, an identity that is above all, false. You have to understand that you are more than your mind. All of us have certain beliefs when it comes to what are we. Those beliefs are about our abilities, our personality, and our talents. It’s what becomes the structure of your ego. Ego is not a static thing, but a dynamic and active part of your personality. It plays a significant role in creating the emotional drama in your life. By agreeing to the thoughts you have about yourself, you’re constructing a self-image. There are thoughts that especially contribute to the structure of your ego. Such thoughts sound something like, “I am smart.” “I am not good at sports.” “Nobody loves me.” “My scar makes me ugly.” Behind all these mentionings of “I” and “me” hides your ego...
